Summary:
Trego County has two listed schools: Trego Grade School, serving prekindergarten through eighth grade, and Trego Community High, serving grades 9–12. Their 2025–26 results show markedly different strengths by subject. The most important finding is the high school’s sharp split: math proficiency was 65%, 24 percentage points above the state, while ELA was 12%, 34 points below.
Trego Grade School led in all-grades ELA and science, with 44% in each, compared with 12% and 23% at the high school; its advantages were 33 and 21 points, respectively. The high school led in math, at 65% versus 34% at the grade school, a 30-point difference. Grade-level results add detail: eighth-grade ELA and science at the grade school were 11 and 7 points above state results, while the high school’s 10th-grade math was 28 points above the state and its ELA was 29 points below. Because the schools serve different grades, their all-grades results are not like-grade comparisons.
Recent results moved in opposite directions at the high school: math rose 22 points from the prior year, while ELA fell 25 points. At the grade school, ELA rose 8 points and math rose 3; science fell 2 points, though its lead over the state widened by 1 point. Both schools have two stars from SchoolDigger; its 2025–26 rankings place the grade school at 394 of 657 schools (40th percentile) and the high school at 213 of 340 (37th percentile). Chronic absenteeism was lower at the grade school—6%, compared with 15% at the high school and 18% statewide. Student–teacher ratios were 11.6 at the grade school and 7.2 at the high school, while free/reduced-lunch rates were similar, at 37% and 39%; these figures describe context, not the cause of score differences.
