Uniontown

The Uniontown area has two schools serving prekindergarten through grade 12: West Bourbon Elementary (263 students, PK–6) and Uniontown High School (178 students, grades 7–12). In 2025–26, the elementary school was above state proficiency in all three subjects, while the high school was below in all three. The most striking difference was science: their schoolwide results were 75% and 24%, a 51-point gap.

West Bourbon stands out for its results relative to the state: it was ahead by 12 points in ELA, 20 in math, and 37 in science. Uniontown High was behind by 6 points in ELA, 4 in math, and 15 in science. Still, grade-level results show exceptions: high school grade 10 math was 56%, versus 37% statewide, while elementary grade 5 math was 81%, versus 45%. SchoolDigger gives West Bourbon four stars and Uniontown High three; their different grade spans mean schoolwide scores are not a like-for-like comparison.

Recent changes point to different strengths and challenges. From 2024–25 to 2025–26, both schools improved in math: West Bourbon by 3 points and Uniontown High by 8. The high school’s ELA result fell by 12 points and its science result by 33; West Bourbon’s science result fell by 5. SchoolDigger’s percentile ranking for the high school rose from 20 in 2023–24 to 54 in 2025–26, while West Bourbon’s eased from 83 to 78. The high school has a lower student–teacher ratio (10, compared with 14.2) and a lower free/reduced-lunch rate (58%, compared with 67%); these figures describe the schools, not the causes of their results. The high school’s 93% graduation rate was above the state’s 90%, and chronic absenteeism was below the state rate at both schools: 17% at the high school and 10% at West Bourbon, versus 18% statewide.
