St John-Hudson

The two schools in St John-Hudson serve prekindergarten through grade 6 at St John Elementary (225 students) and grades 7–12 at St John High (141 students). The clearest finding is that results vary sharply by grade: High’s seventh-grade math score was 67%, 29 points above the state, while Elementary’s sixth-grade ELA score was 25%, 17 points below the state. These contrasting results show that neither school’s overall profile describes every grade.

In 2025–26 all-grades ELA, Elementary stood out at 52%, compared with High at 35—a 17-point difference; Elementary was 6 points above the state, while High was 11 points below. Math reversed the order: High scored 44% and Elementary 38%, a 6-point gap; High was 3 points above the state and Elementary 3 points below. Science was nearly even, with both schools at 37% and each about 1 point below the state. SchoolDigger gives Elementary a 46th-percentile ranking and High a 49th-percentile ranking; both receive 2 stars.

Results moved in different directions across the two supplied years: the schools’ mean ELA score fell from 50% to 44%, while their mean science score rose from 18% to 37%; math increased from 36% to 41%. SchoolDigger rankings peaked in 2024–25 before pulling back: Elementary went from the 46th to 57th and back to the 46th percentile, while High moved from the 39th to 59th and then 49th. High’s 95% graduation rate was 6 points above the state rate, alongside chronic absenteeism of 36%, versus 10% at Elementary. Student–teacher ratios were 9.5 at High and 15.7 at Elementary; free/reduced-lunch rates were 42% and 40%, respectively. These are descriptive contrasts, not explanations for achievement differences. Because the schools serve different grades, their all-grades results are not same-grade comparisons.
