Ft Larned

The Ft Larned area is home to three schools - Fort Larned Elementary School, Larned Senior High, and Larned Middle School - all part of the Ft Larned district. While the elementary school stands out as the strongest performer, the secondary schools face challenges in matching its academic success.

Fort Larned Elementary School consistently ranks in the top half of Kansas elementary schools and outperforms the district and state averages in many subject areas. In contrast, Larned Senior High and Larned Middle School generally underperform in English Language Arts and Math. The high school, however, does better than the district and state in Science.

Across the three schools, chronic absenteeism rates are high, ranging from 19.5% to 22.5%. Additionally, there are significant differences in free/reduced lunch percentages and spending per student, suggesting potential inequities in resource allocation. While the secondary schools have lower student-teacher ratios, this does not appear to directly translate to improved academic outcomes. Overall, the data highlights the need for targeted interventions and a closer examination of the factors contributing to the observed performance disparities between the elementary and secondary schools in the Ft Larned area.
