Summary:
Silver Lake Elementary and Silver Lake Junior-Senior High are the two schools in Silver Lake, serving PK–6 and grades 7–12, respectively, with 355 students each. Both schools’ 2025–26 all-grades proficiency rates were above the state’s in ELA, math and science, but the elementary school’s results were substantially higher—the clearest difference between the schools.
Silver Lake Elementary stands out at the top: its all-grades rates were 75% in ELA, 79% in math and 77% in science, compared with 51%, 57% and 56% at Silver Lake Junior-Senior High—gaps of 24, 22 and 22 percentage points. The high school’s rates were still above state results by 5 points in ELA, 16 in math and 17 in science. SchoolDigger ranks the elementary school 11th of 657 schools (98th percentile, five stars) and the high school 131st of 340 (61st percentile, three stars). At the high school, eighth grade is a bright spot: ELA is 28 points and math 39 points above the state, while 10th-grade ELA is 7 points below. The elementary school’s listed grade-level results all exceed state rates. All-grades comparisons combine different grade spans, so same-grade results are more directly comparable.
Recent changes differ by school and subject: elementary ELA and math rose 8 points each, while high-school ELA fell 10 points and math fell 2; science declined at both schools, by 7 points at elementary and 3 at the high school. Across the two schools, the average advantage over the state is largest in science (28 points) and math (27), and smaller in ELA (17). Other measures add context: student-teacher ratios are 12.3 at elementary and 10.7 at the high school, while free/reduced-lunch rates are 24% and 21%. Chronic absenteeism is 4% at elementary and 17% at the high school, compared with 18% statewide. The high school’s 2023–24 graduation rate was 96%, 7 points above the state; its recent proficiency declines do not reflect every reported outcome.
