Summary:

North Ottawa County has two schools serving prekindergarten through grade 12: Minneapolis Elementary serves PK–6, and Minneapolis Junior-Senior High School serves grades 7–12. Their enrollments are nearly identical, at 298 and 300 students, but their 2025–26 results show different strengths: the elementary school exceeded state rates in all three subjects, while the high school was below the state in ELA and science and just above it in math. The clearest overall takeaway is that results vary by school and subject, with the elementary school stronger relative to state rates across subjects.

Minneapolis Elementary stands out in the All Grades results, with 49% proficient in ELA, 46% in math, and 50% in science—about 3, 5, and 12 points above state rates. Minneapolis Junior-Senior High School had the lower result in each subject: 38% in ELA, 41% in math, and 34% in science. Its math result was still just above the state rate; its ELA and science results were 8 and 4 points below. The largest school-to-school difference was in science, at 16 points. Within the elementary school, fifth graders were 9 points above the state in ELA and 13 points above in math, while sixth graders were 5 and 9 points below. At the high school, ELA was below state rates in each reported grade, while grade 10 math was 7 points above.

Results improved in both schools’ ELA and math from 2024–25 to 2025–26, and the equal-weighted average for the two schools moved closer to or above the state in all three subjects. Science was the exception to the shared improvement pattern: elementary science rose 17 points, while high-school science fell 5. SchoolDigger’s three-year ranking percentile rose from 41 to 53 for the elementary school and fell from 87 to 62 for the high school. The schools report similar student-teacher ratios—10.2 and 9.9—and the high school’s 2023–24 graduation rate was 93%, 4 points above the state rate. Reported free/reduced-lunch rates were 50% at the elementary school and 42% at the high school; these are contextual figures, not explanations for achievement. Because the schools serve different grade spans, their All Grades results are not a same-grade comparison.
