Ell-Saline

Ell-Saline has two schools serving prekindergarten through grade 12: Ell-Saline Elementary (237 students, PK–6) and Ell-Saline Middle/High School (204 students, grades 7–12). In 2025–26, the schools’ simple average was above the state in science, below it in English language arts (ELA), and further below in math. The most important area-wide finding is that math is the clearest weakness: the schools averaged 30% proficient, 11 percentage points below the state’s 41%.

Ell-Saline Elementary led in all-grades ELA and math, with 47% proficient in ELA versus 34% at Ell-Saline Middle/High School, and 34% in math versus 25%. Science was nearly tied at 40% in each school. Grade results show exceptions to those overall patterns: Middle/High’s grade 10 math was 10 points above the state, while its grade 7 and 8 results were 23 and 22 points below; Elementary’s math was below the state in all four reported grades. SchoolDigger ranks Middle/High higher statewide—85th of 340 schools, in the 75th percentile—than Elementary, ranked 436th of 657, in the 34th percentile. Middle/High also reported a 97% graduation rate, compared with 90% statewide.

Recent results diverged by subject and school. Elementary ELA rose 7 percentage points from the prior year, while Middle/High fell 8; the schools’ average was nearly unchanged as the state gained 1 point. Science improved at both schools—up 11 points at Elementary and 9 at Middle/High—while the state declined 3 points, lifting the schools’ average from 30% to 40%. Math moved the other way: the schools’ average fell 8 points while the state rose 2. Context measures differ modestly: Elementary’s student-teacher ratio was 11.5 and its free/reduced-lunch rate was 44%, compared with 12.8 and 47% at Middle/High; both schools had lower chronic absenteeism than the state, at 9% and 13% versus 18%. The schools serve different grade spans, so their all-grades results are not direct comparisons of the same grades.
