Elementary Schools in Lansing

Lansing has two elementary schools: Lansing Elementary School serves prekindergarten through grade 3, and Lansing Intermediate School serves grades 4–5. Their two-school averages are 54% proficient in ELA and 47% in math, respectively 8 and 6 percentage points above the state averages. The most important caution is that Intermediate’s fifth-grade science result was 6 points below the fifth-grade state result, despite its all-grades science score being 1 point above the all-grades state figure.

Lansing Elementary School leads the all-grades comparison in both tested subjects: 55% in ELA versus Intermediate’s 53%, a 2-point difference, and 49% in math versus 46%, a 2-point difference. Both schools are above the state in all-grades ELA and math; Elementary’s leads are 9 points in ELA and 8 in math, while Intermediate’s are 7 and 5 points. Grade-level results add nuance: Intermediate’s fourth-grade math was 0.6% versus the state’s 44.4%, while its fifth-grade math was 4 points above the state. Its ELA results were above the state in both grades, by 2 points in grade 4 and 4 in grade 5.

Recent ELA results improved at both schools, while their math advantages over the state narrowed. From 2024–25 to 2025–26, ELA proficiency rose 2 points at Elementary and 3 at Intermediate; in math, Elementary fell 2 points and Intermediate rose 1, but each school’s state margin shrank. SchoolDigger’s percentile for Intermediate slipped from 52 to 51 in the latest year, despite its higher ELA and math scores, and from 59 to 51 since 2023–24. Attendance also differs: chronic absenteeism was 14% at Elementary and 21% at Intermediate, against 18% statewide. Elementary’s student-teacher ratio was 16.9, compared with 15.3 at Intermediate; reported free/reduced-lunch rates were 44% and 41%, respectively. These figures describe the schools but do not explain their score differences.
