Summary:
South Barber has one high school, South Barber 7–12, serving grades 7–12 and enrolling 87 students. In 2025–2026, the school’s all-grades proficiency was above the state figure in ELA, math and science, though its advantage in science was small. The clearest overall finding is that math and science shifted from below state results in 2024–2025 to above them the following year.
There are no other high schools in the list to compare, but the school’s strongest 2025–2026 results were ELA and math: 57% were proficient in ELA versus 46% statewide, and 52% in math versus 41% statewide. Science was 40%, compared with 38% statewide. Grade 10 math was a particular strength, at 58% proficient versus 37% statewide, a 21-point advantage. However, the school did not exceed the South Barber district in every subject: it was 5 points higher in ELA, but 2 points lower in math and 9 points lower in science. Chronic absenteeism is another concern: 28% at the school, compared with 18% statewide and 15% in the district.
Results improved substantially year over year in math and science: math rose 19 points, from 33% to 52%, and science rose 19 points, from 21% to 40%; ELA increased 2 points, from 55% to 57%. SchoolDigger’s ranking rose from the 42nd percentile in 2024–2025 to the 86th percentile in 2025–2026, and its star rating increased from 2 to 4. The school reported a student–teacher ratio of 6.9 and a free/reduced-lunch rate of 63% in 2024–2025; these figures provide context, not an explanation of results. Graduation was 93% in 2023–2024, versus 90% statewide. With only one school listed, the data cannot support comparisons among local high schools.
