Summary:
Mission Valley Elementary serves pre-K through grade 6, and Mission Valley Junior and Senior High School serves grades 7–12; together, they enroll 452 students. The most important finding is that results differ sharply by subject and school: the junior/senior high is above the state in math and science, while both schools are below it in ELA.
Mission Valley Junior and Senior High School stands out in math and science, with 47% proficiency in math and 44% in science in 2025–26—6 and 6 points above state rates, respectively. Mission Valley Elementary is lower in those subjects, at 29% in math and 24% in science, 12 and 14 points below the state. In ELA, the elementary school leads locally by 1 point (39% versus 38%), though both trail the 46% state rate. SchoolDigger’s latest rankings also put the schools far apart: the junior/senior high ranked 86th of 340 schools, at the 75th percentile with 4 stars; the elementary school ranked 524th of 657, at the 20th percentile with 1 star.
Recent score trends are mixed, but the equal-school averages moved farther below state results in all three subjects. From 2024–25 to 2025–26, the local averages fell 3 points in ELA, 1 in math, and 9 in science; state results rose 1 point in ELA and 2 in math, and fell 3 in science. At the school level, the elementary school gained 3 points in ELA but lost 5 in math and 13 in science; the junior/senior high gained 3 points in math but lost 8 in ELA and 5 in science. The junior/senior high’s stronger math and science results coexist with higher chronic absenteeism: 40%, compared with 13% at the elementary school and 18% statewide. Its student–teacher ratio is 9.5, versus 13.1 at the elementary school; these are contextual differences, not explanations for the score patterns. SchoolDigger rankings have also dipped from their 2024–25 peaks at both schools.
