Summary:

Augusta has five schools in the Augusta district: three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Results vary by grade and subject: Garfield Elementary leads the elementary schools overall, while the middle and high school are below state figures in most grade-matched comparisons. The clearest area-wide concern is Augusta Middle School, where all seven supplied grade-level results were below state figures.

Garfield is the strongest elementary-school standout: its 2025–26 all-grade results were 62% in ELA, 46% in math and 59% in science, respectively 16, 5 and 21 percentage points above the state. The biggest elementary-school warning is Lincoln Elementary’s 5th-grade ELA result: 25%, 26 points below the state and 43 points below Garfield’s 69%. Ewalt Elementary had the lowest all-grade ELA and math results among the elementary schools, at 43% and 36%. SchoolDigger rates Garfield four stars and places it in the 70th percentile; Ewalt and Lincoln each have two stars. At Augusta Middle, 8th-grade math was 20% versus 40% statewide, and science was 20% versus 39%. The exception is Augusta Senior High’s 10th-grade math, 3 points above the state.

Recent changes are mixed rather than consistently improving: Lincoln’s ELA rose 6 points from 2024–25 to 2025–26, while Ewalt’s fell 7; the average school-to-state ELA gap widened by 2 points. SchoolDigger’s three-year percentile ranking rose 8 points for Lincoln, was unchanged for Augusta Senior High, and fell 7 for Ewalt, 9 for Augusta Middle and 11 for Garfield. School characteristics also vary: elementary student–teacher ratios range from 11.7 at Lincoln to 16.0 at Ewalt, while Garfield’s is 12.2; Garfield’s free/reduced-lunch rate is 48%. These are school profiles, not explanations for achievement differences.
