Northeastern High School is a grades 9–12 public school in Fountain City, a small community in Wayne County, Indiana, serving 426 students as part of Northeastern Wayne Schools. It sits in the lower-middle tier of Indiana high schools: in 2025–2026 it ranked 275th of 415 statewide (34th percentile, 2 stars), and its recent history has been volatile—from 52nd percentile in 2021–2022, down to 20th in 2022–2023, up to 45th in 2024–2025, then back down to 34th in 2025–2026.

Its clearest strengths are keeping students in school and graduating them. The 2024–2025 graduation rate was 97.0%, above Indiana’s 89.7%, and chronic absenteeism was 9.7%, far below the state’s 16.7% and the best among nearby traditional high schools. Locally, Northeastern trails Centerville Senior High School, Randolph Southern Junior-Senior High School, Lincoln Middle/ High School, Hagerstown Junior-Senior High School, and Winchester Community High School on most academic proficiency measures, while leading Richmond High School, Union Junior & High School, and the nearby virtual/alternative schools.

The main academic concern is SAT math. Proficiency was 8.05% in 2025–2026 versus Indiana’s 25.6%, down from 15.09% in 2024–2025, and below Centerville (27.64%), Winchester (19.1%), Hagerstown (18.18%), Randolph Southern (12.82%), and Richmond (11.4%); only Lincoln (6.82%) and Union (4.76%) were lower among listed traditional local schools.
