Summary

North Newton Junior-Senior High School is a small public school in the rural town of Morocco, Indiana, serving 486 students in grades 7 through 12 as part of North Newton School Corp. Nearly half of its students (48.15%) qualify for free or reduced-price lunch — the highest rate among four nearby high schools: Kankakee Valley High School, Lowell Senior High School, Rensselaer Central High School, and South Newton Senior High School. One caveat for families: because North Newton includes grades 7 and 8 while those schools serve grades 9–12 only, enrollment and all-grade test figures are not perfectly comparable.

The school's strengths are notable. Its graduation rate of 96.5% in 2024–25 is above Indiana's 89.7% and second in the group only to Lowell's 99.1%. Chronic absenteeism fell from 50.3% in 2021–22 to 18.1% in 2024–25 — still above the state's 16.7%, but much better than Kankakee Valley (21.2%) and Lowell (46.7%). The clearest challenge is math. SAT Math was 20.31 in 2025–26, below the state's 25.6 and behind Kankakee Valley, Lowell, and Rensselaer Central. Middle-school ILEARN math is weaker still: 7th grade 15.58 vs. the state's 35.9, and 8th grade 21.92 vs. 34.2, while all-grade math declined from 24.7 in 2023–24 to 18.67 in 2025–26 — suggesting gaps that begin before high school. English results are stronger but volatile: SAT ERW reached 71.43 in 2024–25 (highest in the group and 16.93 points above the state) before easing to 54.69, still above the state average. The school spends $13,880 per student with a student-teacher ratio of 13.0, both mid-range locally, and its effectiveness rankings for special education and low-income students improved markedly.
