Summary
North Daviess Elementary School is a public K–6 school with 621 students in Elnora, a small rural community in southern Indiana, and it is part of North Daviess Com Schools.
The school is on an upward path. Its 2025–26 rank is 306 of 1,015 Indiana elementary schools — the 70th percentile, with 4 stars — up from the 63rd percentile in 2024–25, 61st in 2023–24, and 54th in 2021–22. It has not quite returned to its 2017–18 peak of 79th percentile, but the improvement is steady. On 2025–26 ILEARN tests, all-grade English language arts was 52.06%, math 41.76%, and science 62.13%. Reading is above the state average in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6, and science and 5th-grade social studies also beat the state. Math is the clear weak spot: it trails Barr Reeve Elementary School, Veale Elementary School, Loogootee Elementary School, Linton-Stockton Elementary, and White River Valley Elementary School. The difficulty is concentrated in the upper grades — only 19.51% of 5th graders were proficient in math, versus 42% statewide. Third-grade math, by contrast, is a strength at 66.29% against the state's 51.9%.
Attendance is a genuine standout: chronic absenteeism was 7.5% in 2024–25, well below the district's 9.9% and the state's 16.7%, and lower than every nearby school except Barr Reeve at 3.5%. Resources are moderate, at $11,345 per student in 2023–24, while the student–teacher ratio of 13.6 is among the most favorable in the area. North Daviess is also larger than most neighbors, and because it serves K–6 while several nearby elementaries stop at grade 5 or grade 4, all-grade comparisons are not perfectly even. Overall, this is a solid, improving school with strong reading results and excellent attendance, and a focused math opportunity in grades 4 through 6.
