Greenwood Middle School

Greenwood Middle School is the only middle school in the Greenwood Community School Corp, serving 964 students in grades 6–8 in the suburban community of Greenwood, Indiana, just south of Indianapolis. In 2025–26 it ranked 111th of 486 Indiana middle schools — the 77th percentile and a 4-star rating — a level it has held fairly steadily for a decade, though its percentile has drifted gently downward from 84th in 2018–19. Because it is the district's only middle school, its results essentially are the district's middle-grade results.

Reading is the school's clear strength. At 54.1% proficient in ELA, Greenwood outperforms nearly every nearby school except the two Center Grove schools, and its grade-level scores run 8–15 points above the state mark. Math is more mixed: overall proficiency is 39.9%, below the state in grades 6 and 7, but 8th-grade math is a genuine bright spot at 48.8%, which is 14.6 points above the state. Chronic absenteeism is a standout at 11.0%, better than the state's 16.7% and better than several nearby schools with less poverty, after falling from 30.2% in 2021–22.

Among nearby options, Clark Pleasant Middle School is the closest peer at the 78th percentile, while Center Grove Middle School Central and Center Grove Middle School North score far higher in math (63.1% and 59.1%) with much lower poverty rates. Franklin Community Middle School is a mirror image: similar ELA results, but a 7.5-point math gap and $12,463 spent per student versus Greenwood's $9,905. In nearby Perry Township Schools, Perry Meridian Middle School and Southport Middle School sit at the 72nd and 47th percentiles with higher absenteeism.
