Cardinal Elementary School is a K–5 school in Brownsburg, Indiana—a suburban community near Indianapolis—serving 650 students in Brownsburg Community School Corp, one of Indiana’s highest-rated districts (4th of 374, 99th percentile, 5 stars). By state standards, Cardinal remains strong: in 2025–2026, all-grade ELA was 69.68, math 65.31, science 49.15, and chronic absenteeism was 6.4%, better than the district’s 8.3% and state’s 16.7%. However, its statewide rank slipped to 143rd of 1,015 (86th percentile, 4 stars), down from 97th of 1,005 in 2024–2025 (90th percentile, 5 stars). It is now the only 4-star school among nearby Brownsburg peers—Brown Elementary School, White Lick Elementary School, Eagle Elementary School, Crossroads Elementary School, Lincoln Elementary School, Reagan Elementary School, and Delaware Trail Elementary School—all rank 28th–43rd statewide (top 4%, 5 stars).

The biggest academic gaps are in early grades, especially math and science. In 2025–2026, 5th grade performed well—ELA 77.88 and math 76.99, both above district averages, with social studies 68.14 near district and far above state. But 3rd-grade math was 64.29 versus district 77.89, 4th-grade math was 55.08 versus 72.27, and 4th-grade science was 49.15 versus 59.95. Those early-grade gaps likely drive much of the overall rank decline. It substantially outperforms Robey Elementary School in ELA and math, and has higher ELA than River Birch Elementary School and Sycamore Elementary School in Avon Community School Corp.
