Summary:
South Henry School Corp is a small Indiana district with just two schools serving about 816 students: Tri Elementary School (grades K–5, 358 students) and Tri Junior-Senior High School (grades 6–12, 458 students). Both share a campus in Straughn, and there is no standalone middle school or alternative school, so middle-grade results sit inside the high school's report. The district is rated 1 star and ranks 273 of 374 districts, in the 27th percentile, while both schools currently show 2 stars.
The two schools have opposite strengths. Tri Junior-Senior High School stands out for completion and attendance: a 100.0% graduation rate versus 89.7% statewide, and 8.2% chronic absenteeism versus 16.7% statewide. Its academics lag, though — all-grade Math is 21.28%, grade 7 Math is just 8.33% against the state's 35.9%, and SAT Math is 14.81% versus 25.6%. Tri Elementary School is the reverse in math: all-grade Math is 44.58%, grade 5 Math is 47.27% (above the state's 42.0%), and grade 3 Math is 49.15%. Both schools serve nearly identical free/reduced lunch populations (about 49.7%), so poverty rates alone don't explain the academic gap.
ELA is the district-wide concern. Every elementary ELA grade is far below state — grade 5 ELA is 14.55% versus 42.2% — and every high-school ELA grade is below state too, with all-grade ELA falling at both schools and at the district level year over year. Attendance is a plus overall, but Tri Elementary School's 12.0% chronic absenteeism is higher than the high school's 8.2%. One bright spot: grade 5 Social Studies at the elementary jumped from 18.03% to 45.45%, now close to the state's 47.2%.
