Scott County School District 2 serves roughly 2,542 students across six schools in Indiana — four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Scottsburg Senior High School is the largest with 678 students in grades 9–12, while Lexington Elementary School is the smallest with 205. The district ranks 123rd of 374 in Indiana, at the 67th percentile with 3 stars, but that average hides wide differences: individual school percentiles range from 44th at Scottsburg Elementary to 84th at Lexington.

Two 4-star elementary schools are the academic anchors. Lexington Elementary School sits in the 84th percentile and posts the district's top scores: 62.24% ELA, 61.22% math, and 82.05% in 5th-grade social studies — the highest single figure in the data. Johnson Elementary School is at the 74th percentile with the strongest all-grade elementary math, 61.47%, even with a free/reduced-lunch rate of 65.3%. Both have the smallest enrollments, lowest student-teacher ratios, and highest per-student spending. Scottsburg Senior High School is improving, rising from the 54th to the 66th percentile, with a 92.1% graduation rate and SAT math at 27.85% versus the state's 25.60% — but chronic absenteeism of 35.7% is more than double the state's 16.7%.
