ZIP code 61820 has two middle schools—Franklin Middle School and Edison Middle School—both serving grades 6–8 in Champaign CUSD 4. In 2025–2026, both schools were below state proficiency in all-grades English language arts (ELA) and math, as well as grade 8 science. The shared shortfall was greatest in math: Franklin was 12 percentage points below the state and Edison was 14 points below. The clearest difference between the schools, however, was grade 8 science: Edison was 5 points below the state, while Franklin was 17 points below.
There is no single school that leads across every subject and grade.
