Edison Middle School serves 647 students in grades 6–8 in Champaign, Illinois. In 2025–2026, its proficiency rates were 45% in English language arts (ELA), 26% in math, and 47% in eighth-grade science. Chronic absenteeism was 33%, compared with 24% statewide, and was second-highest among nearby schools with data. The clearest concern is that math results are below both district and state levels, while chronic absenteeism is also high.

ELA is Edison’s strongest result against its district, and science is its strongest against the district and state: ELA was 3 points above the district but 11 below the state; science was 5 points above the district and 5 below the state. Math was 5 points below the district and 14 below the state. In 2024–2025, Edison’s student-teacher ratio was 14.8, above the nearby-school average of about 12.8, and its free/reduced lunch eligible rate was 50%.

I am a Champaign citizen and Edison Middle School is one of the top middle schools around. Its students are respectful, teachers and staff put students first, and many of the students participate in service learning projects...not to mention the Edison Band and Athletics are top notch! Close Quote
