Summary:

ZIP code 60638 has 12 schools—10 elementary schools and two high schools—with 7,904 students across Chicago Public Schools District 299 and Central Stickney School District 110. Results vary widely, but the most important finding is the sharp high-school contrast: Hancock College Preparatory High School was far ahead of Kennedy High School in all three 2025–26 ACT subjects.

Hancock’s 11th graders were proficient at rates of 94% in ELA, 84% in math and 88% in science, compared with 36%, 18% and 30% at Kennedy—a gap of 57, 66 and 57 percentage points. Among elementary schools, Kinzie Elementary School led all-grades ELA at 70%, 14 points above the state rate; Charles J Sahs Elementary School led math at 53%, 13 points above the state. At the lower end, Hearst Elementary School had 29% in ELA and 11% in math, 27 and 29 points below state rates. Across the nine elementary schools with results, average proficiency was 50% in ELA and 30% in math, both below state rates.

Elementary averages edged up from 2024–25 to 2025–26—by 2 points in ELA and 1 point in math—but state rates rose faster in ELA, widening the average gap. Science results were more encouraging: the eight schools with comparable results averaged gains of 9 points in 5th grade and 13 points in 8th grade. School context does not neatly predict results: in 2024–25, Hancock and Kennedy had similar free/reduced lunch eligible shares, 65% and 66%, despite their very different ACT scores. Kinzie’s share was 62%, with a 12.4 student-teacher ratio; Sahs’s was 67%, with a 9.1 ratio. SchoolDigger ranked Sahs at the 59th statewide percentile and Hancock at the 99th percentile in 2025–26; Kennedy was at the 15th percentile. Blair Early Childhood Center has no supplied test results for comparison.
