Summary

Dore Elementary School is a public elementary school serving grades PK-8 in the Chicago Public Schools District 299, with 739 students enrolled. The school's performance, however, has been a concern, with lower test scores, higher chronic absenteeism, and declining rankings compared to nearby schools.

Dore Elementary School's test scores are generally lower than the state and district averages, with only 44.1% of students proficient or better in ELA and 30.5% in math, compared to 53.1% and 38.5% statewide, respectively. The school's performance also varies significantly across different student groups, with Hispanic students performing relatively well but White students, English Language Learners, and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds performing much worse, ranking in the bottom 25% of Illinois elementary schools. Additionally, Dore Elementary School has high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 25.4% to 40.8% over the past few years, which is significantly higher than the state and district averages.

Interestingly, Dore Elementary School's performance is generally lower than the nearby Kinzie Elementary and Byrne Elementary schools, as well as the schools in the neighboring Indian Springs School District 109 and Summit School District 104. This suggests that Dore Elementary School may need to implement significant improvements to address the underlying issues and improve outcomes for all students.

Open Quote Genuinely appalled with the Mickey Mouse operation the principal is running at the school. This is the second time I pick my daughter up from school for early dismissal. Both times I wasn’t asked for identification. I was told that “we are familiar with the parents” so I asked the principal if she knows me and she said no. Exactly. You don’t know me and so you don’t me from my child’s father to just being a neighbor. When I asked her if she understood the legality of just letting the student leave without verifying any identification or file she said she did because she’s the principal. I expect more from her. If she did understand legalities as she claimed she understands that if any student was allowed to go home with someone that wasn’t their parent with full rights or a appointed guardian they could be sued. Again, I’m sure she understood this, but most of simply forgotten. Furthermore, the doors were locked, I was buzzed in without any questions. There was no security at the front desk, no pen to sign in and so I simply walked to the window with no trouble on my end and clearly no concern on the schools part. She said “we’re here to nurture” and yet they failed to include safety. This is the second time this has happen. I fully intend to write to the school district, superintendent and so on. I’m disgusted with her response and also the schools security measure. I’m sure there are cameras in the school to back up my claims. Close Quote
