Summary:

ZIP code 60459 has six K–5 elementary schools, all in Burbank School District 111. In 2025–2026, their average results were below Illinois averages in English Language Arts (ELA), math and fifth-grade science; the gaps were 5, 5 and 9 percentage points, respectively. The most important finding is that performance varies substantially from school to school, rather than reflecting one consistent result across the area.

J B Kennedy Elementary School led overall ELA at 60% and tied Edward J Tobin Elementary School for the top math result at 46%; both were above the state in those subjects. Tobin’s ELA result, 56.5%, was just above the 56.3% state result. At the other end, Maddock Elementary School had the lowest overall ELA (44%), math (20%) and science (25%) results. Richard Byrd Elementary School led fifth-grade science at 47%. Grade-level results add useful nuance: Harry E Fry School led fifth-grade ELA and math, while Tobin led fourth-grade math. SchoolDigger’s 2025–2026 statewide ranking percentiles also put Kennedy highest among these schools, at the 53rd percentile, and Maddock lowest, at the 16th.

Science showed the strongest recent improvement: the six-school average rose 10 points from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, compared with a 7-point state increase, and every school improved. ELA increased by 2 points on average, slower than the state’s 3-point gain; math rose by 1 point, close to the state’s 1-point increase. SchoolDigger’s average ranking percentile fell from 42 to 37 over three years; Kennedy was the only school whose percentile rose. School characteristics do not neatly match results: Maddock had the lowest student–teacher ratio, 11.3, while Kennedy’s was 13.2. The reported free/reduced lunch eligible measure for 2024–2025 ranged from 61% to 71%, with a six-school average of 66%; these figures are context, not an explanation for results. Fry’s fourth-grade math score was suppressed by the state and is unavailable.
