Summary

Indian Hill Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 456 students in grades 1-5 in Round Lake Heights, Illinois, which is part of the Round Lake CUSD 116 district. Unfortunately, the school has consistently ranked in the bottom 15-20% of Illinois elementary schools over the past 10 years, with a current ranking of 1871 out of 2056 schools and a 0-star rating from SchoolDigger.

The key challenges facing Indian Hill Elementary School include significantly underperforming on standardized tests compared to state and district averages, with only 22.8% of students proficient or better in English Language Arts and just 10% proficient in Mathematics. The school also struggles with high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 23.3% to 31.8% over the past few years. Additionally, 87.06% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high percentage of students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. The school's performance issues extend across different student subgroups, with the school ranking in the bottom 10-15% of Illinois schools for African American, White, and Special Education students, and in the bottom 30-40% for Hispanic and English Language Learner students.

Interestingly, the other elementary schools in the Round Lake CUSD 116 district, such as Village Elementary School and Raymond Ellis Elementary School, also perform poorly on standardized tests and have high rates of chronic absenteeism and free/reduced-price lunch eligibility. This suggests that the challenges faced by Indian Hill Elementary School are systemic within the district. While the school's performance is concerning, there have been some signs of improvement in recent years, indicating that with the right interventions and support, there may be opportunities for further progress.

Open Quote My daughter has only been here for two years, and I am told it WAS horrible, but now is getting better. Maybe we have been lucky, but her teachers have been excellent,
and her whole school experience as a whole is better. There is definitely still a lack of sufficient funding to attract and retain better teachers and staff, so I hope that improves. Close Quote

Open Quote Indian Hill is a terrible school. Besides the fact that the students receive a poor quality education due to the limited availability of resources, teachers gossip about each other and there is little support from administration. Close Quote
