Summary:
Round Lake Beach, Illinois, has three elementary schools serving grades K–5, K–2, and K–4: Raymond Ellis Elementary School, Round Lake Beach Elementary School, and Avon Center Elementary School. The supplied 2025–26 IAR results cover Ellis and Avon; Round Lake Beach Elementary has no scores listed. Both schools with results were below state proficiency: Ellis scored 24% in ELA and 13% in math, while Avon scored 47% and 35%, respectively. The most important finding is the substantial achievement gap between Avon and Ellis, with Avon ahead by 22 points in ELA and 21 points in math.
Avon Center stands out as the stronger school in the reported results: it led Ellis in every directly comparable Grade 3 and Grade 4 ELA and math result. For example, Avon was ahead by 27 points in Grade 3 ELA and by 20 points in Grade 4 ELA; in Grade 4 math, its lead was 8 points. Avon was also closer to state proficiency, falling short by 10 points in ELA and 5 in math, compared with Ellis’s gaps of 32 and 26 points. SchoolDigger ranked Avon 1,230 of 1,737 statewide (29th percentile), ahead of Ellis at 1,671 of 1,737 (4th percentile). Ellis’s Grade 5 results were especially low in math: 9%, 27 points below the state.
Results changed little or worsened from 2024–25 to 2025–26, and neither school kept pace with state gains. Ellis’s ELA proficiency fell by 1 point while math rose by about 1; Avon declined by 1 point in both subjects. The state gaps widened in all four school-subject comparisons. One positive exception: Ellis Grade 5 science rose from 19% to 27%, though it remained 21 points below the state. In 2024–25, both schools reported a student-teacher ratio of 12; free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 54% at Avon and 90% at Ellis, a 36-point difference. These are contextual differences, not explanations for the score gap.
