Legacy Academy of Excellence Charter School is a K–8 charter school in Rockford, serving 234 students in Rockford School District 205. Its strongest academic signal is improving English language arts (ELA), but attendance is a major concern: in 2025–26, chronic absenteeism was 59%, compared with 41% districtwide and 24% statewide. It was the highest rate among nearby schools with reported data, exceeding the next-highest, at McIntosh Elementary, at 56%.

ELA is a relative strength locally, while math remains much weaker than the state’s results. Its student-teacher ratio was 29.2 in 2024–25, the second-highest among nearby schools, despite Legacy having the smallest enrollment.
