Summary

Prescott Elementary School is a public K-8 school in Chicago, Illinois, with an enrollment of 412 students. The school stands out as a high-performing institution within the Chicago Public Schools District 299, consistently ranking among the top 15% of Illinois elementary schools in recent years.

Prescott's academic performance is particularly impressive, with students significantly outperforming their peers in the district and state on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) exams. In the 2024-2025 school year, 83.7% of Prescott students were proficient or better in English Language Arts, compared to just 42.8% for the district and 53.1% for the state. The school's strong performance extends to specific student subgroups, such as Hispanic and White students, who rank among the top in the state. However, Prescott does face a challenge with relatively high chronic absenteeism rates, which are higher than the district and state averages.

Prescott's success appears to be supported by its resource allocation, with higher per-student spending and a lower student-teacher ratio compared to the district. This suggests the school is effectively utilizing its resources to support student learning and achievement. While addressing the chronic absenteeism issue could be an important focus, Prescott Elementary School's consistently strong academic performance, particularly among diverse student populations, makes it a standout institution within the Chicago Public Schools District 299.

Open Quote Prescott is a small school with a big heart. Thanks to a strong and involved parent group, the school is thriving and gets better and better each year. My 8-year-old son has been at Prescott since Pre-k and loves it. I’ve seen him grow so much academically and emotionally thanks to the teachers and administration who are responsive and caring. The art teacher/program is amazing. My son creates and studies art by Van Gosh, Matisse, Rousseau, Monet and Klimt. The school offers many extracurricular before-and-after school programs from yoga, music and chess—there is something for everyone. I feel lucky we have such great school in walking distance to our home. I recommending taking a tour of the school. Visit http://www.prescottparents.com/ for more details. Close Quote
