Summary

Fiske Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 385 students in grades PK-8 in Chicago, Illinois, which is part of the Chicago Public Schools District 299. The school has consistently ranked in the bottom 10% of Illinois elementary schools over the past decade, with significantly below-average performance on standardized tests across all grade levels and subject areas.

Fiske Elementary School faces significant challenges, including extremely high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 25.4% to 41.6% over the past few years, which are much higher than the district and state averages. The school serves a student population that is predominantly from low socioeconomic backgrounds. When compared to nearby schools in the same district, such as Dulles Elementary, Till Elementary Math & Science Academy, and Wadsworth Elementary, it becomes clear that the challenges faced by Fiske are not unique, and many of the surrounding schools also struggle with low academic performance and high chronic absenteeism.

The persistent low rankings and poor test scores, coupled with the high rates of chronic absenteeism, indicate that Fiske Elementary School is struggling to provide a quality education to its students. Addressing these issues will require a multi-faceted approach that addresses the underlying socioeconomic and equity concerns within the school and the broader district.

Open Quote I am an ex-student of John Fiske Elementary school. I transeferred out when I was in the 6th grade. I am now a sophmore in high school. I gave this school 2 stars only because of the poor behaviors of the students that I saw while I was attending the school and the behavior that I hear is going on in the school now. The students continously fought and thought about non-important things rather than thier school work. In addition to that I also loved the school because of the teachers that never gave up on us and the present ones that aren't giving up on the students now. Close Quote
