Summary:

St Joseph CCSD 169 serves students in two schools spanning prekindergarten through grade 8: St Joseph Elementary School (PK–4, 423 students) and St Joseph Middle School (grades 5–8, 325 students). In 2025–2026, both schools’ all-grades English language arts (ELA) and mathematics proficiency rates were above state results, and reported grade-level results were also higher than state figures. The schools’ all-grades rates are not a like-grade comparison because they serve different grades. Most important, every reported school-grade-subject proficiency result is above its corresponding state result.

The middle school stands out in ELA: 88% of students were proficient, compared with 79% at the elementary school, a 9-point difference; those results were 32 and 23 points above state, respectively. The elementary school leads in mathematics, with 78% proficient versus 64% at the middle school, a 14-point difference; each was well above state, by 38 and 24 points. Middle-school science is another strength: grade 5 proficiency was 65%, 17 points above state, and grade 8 was 74%, 22 points above. So the subject leaders differ, and neither school is a clear overall bottom performer. Within schools, results vary by grade too: mathematics had a 17-point spread across elementary grades and an 17-point spread across middle-school grades.

Results have improved most consistently in ELA: from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, proficiency rose 10 points at the elementary school and 5 at the middle school. Mathematics was nearly flat at the elementary school, up 1 point, and fell 2 points at the middle school; both remain above state. Science proficiency rose 14 points in grade 5 and 9 in grade 8. SchoolDigger gives the elementary school five stars and a statewide rank of 142 of 1,737 (92nd percentile); the middle school also has five stars, ranking 70 of 1,126 (94th percentile). In 2024–2025, student-teacher ratios were 14.9 and 13.7, and free/reduced lunch eligible was 20% at the elementary school and 19% at the middle school. These are similar context measures, while the schools’ strongest subjects differ.
