Elementary Schools in Waukegan CUSD 60

The 15 elementary schools in Waukegan CUSD 60 serve students in grades PK–5 or K–5. In 2025–26, the schools’ equal-school average was 30% proficient in English language arts (ELA) and 26% in math, compared with state rates of 56% and 40%. The most important finding is that results are well below state levels overall, especially in ELA.

John S. Clark and Little Fort stand out near the top: Clark had 57% ELA, 46% math, and 48% fifth-grade science proficiency; Little Fort led math at 47% and had 54% ELA. Clark’s ELA and science results were just above state rates (by 0.3 and 0.2 percentage points), while Little Fort’s math was 8 points above the state. Andrew Cooke Magnet also performed strongly, with 52% ELA and 45% math. At the other end, North had the lowest all-grades results in both subjects—14% ELA and 16% math—while Glen Flora had the lowest reported fifth-grade science score, 11%. Science figures were suppressed for some schools, so that is the lowest reported result.

Average results improved from 2024–25 to 2025–26, but ELA did not keep pace with the state: the school average rose 2 points, while the state rate rose 3, widening the gap to 26 points. Math rose about 1 point, roughly matching the state’s increase. SchoolDigger’s 2025–26 rankings also put Clark (50th percentile), Little Fort (49th), and Cooke Magnet (43rd) highest among schools with rankings shown. School measures offer context, not a simple guide to results: for 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligible shares ranged from 57% at Cooke Magnet to 82% at Carman-Buckner; Clark’s was 68% and Little Fort’s 70%. Ratios varied too: Clark’s was 10.9 students per teacher, while Clearview’s lower 9.6 ratio accompanied 17% ELA and 17% math proficiency.
