Summary:

Northwestern CUSD 2 has three schools serving 323 students from preschool through grade 12: Northwestern Elementary (PK–6), Northwestern Junior High (grades 7–8), and Northwestern High (grades 9–12). The clearest difference for families is in current elementary and junior-high results: in 2025–2026, Elementary’s all-grades IAR proficiency was above the state rate in both subjects, while Junior High’s was below the state rate in both.

Northwestern Elementary stands out on IAR, with 67% proficient in ELA and 44% in math, compared with 43% and 23% at Northwestern Junior High—school-to-school gaps of 24 points in ELA and 21 in math. Elementary was 11 points above the state in ELA and 5 points above in math; Junior High was 14 points below the state in ELA and 16 points below in math. Elementary’s fifth-grade results were especially strong: 81% in ELA, 26 points above the state, and 50% in math, 14 points above. High-school results are more mixed: Northwestern High was below the state on 10th-grade PreACT ELA (35% versus 54%, a 19-point gap) and 11th-grade ACT ELA (44% versus 50%, a 6-point gap), while its ACT science result was essentially level with the state.

The elementary and junior-high IAR averages moved closer to state rates between 2024–2025 and 2025–2026, but Junior High remains behind: the equal-weight ELA average rose from 45% to 55%, and math from 31% to 34%. High-school trends vary: ACT science rose from 25% to 48%, while 10th-grade PreACT ELA fell from 63% to 35%. SchoolDigger’s ranking histories also differ: Elementary’s percentile rose from 44 to 60 between 2023–2024 and 2025–2026, High’s fell from 51 to 37, and Junior High’s available ranking went from 56 in 2022–2023 to 25 in 2024–2025. In 2024–2025, student-teacher ratios were 11.1 at Elementary and 7.9 at both other schools; free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 52.4% at Elementary and 52.5% at Junior High. These are contextual observations, not explanations for achievement differences; some junior- and high-school results are suppressed.
