Summary:
McHenry CCSD 15 has seven schools serving grades K–8: five elementary schools and two middle schools, with 3,836 students and no high schools. In 2025–2026, the schools’ unweighted average was 52% proficient in all-grades ELA, below the state’s 56%; math averaged 39%, close to the state’s 40%. The most important takeaway is that these group averages hide wide school-to-school differences, so a child’s grade and subject results matter more than the district average alone.
Parkland School led the middle schools in all-grades ELA and math, with 67% and 39%; its ELA result was 11 points above state. Among elementary schools, Valley View Elementary School led in ELA and math, at 64% and 47%, though its grade 5 math score of 28% was 9 points below state. The sharpest contrasts are at Hilltop Elementary School, highest in all-grades math at 58% but lowest in ELA at 38%, and Chauncey H Duker School, lowest in both subjects at 25% math and 41% ELA. Hilltop’s math was 18 points above state, while Duker’s was 15 points below; Duker nevertheless led the three schools with grade 5 science results, at 44%.
Group averages moved farther from state results between 2024–2025 and 2025–2026: ELA fell 1 point as the state rose 3, and math fell 2 points as the state rose 1. SchoolDigger gives Parkland and Valley View three stars, McHenry Middle School two, and Riverwood Elementary School and Duker one; its reported percentile rankings also rose for Parkland, from the 59th to the 61st, while falling for McHenry Middle, Riverwood, Valley View, and Duker. As context, free/reduced lunch eligible shares in 2024–2025 ranged from 38% at Parkland to 46% at Edgebrook Elementary School; student-teacher ratios ranged from 10.7 to 13.1. These measures do not line up neatly with performance.
