Homer CCSD 33C

Homer CCSD 33C has six schools serving grades PK–8: four elementary schools and two middle schools, with no high school. Four schools have 2025–26 test results; across them, average proficiency was 75% in English language arts (ELA) and 66% in math, compared with 56% and 40% statewide. The area’s clearest strength is math: its tested-school average was 26 percentage points above the state rate, versus a 19-point advantage in ELA.

Homer Junior High School led schoolwide ELA at 83%, while Luther J. Schilling School had the lowest result, 67%—a 16-point spread, though Schilling remained above the state rate. In math, William J. Butler School led at 74%, 11 points above the other tested schools’ average; Homer Junior High was lowest at 63%. Butler also outscored Schilling in the same grades: its grade 3 advantage was 7 points in ELA and 9 in math, and its grade 4 advantage was 7 in ELA and 12 in math. Grade 8 science at Homer Junior High was 68%, compared with 52% statewide; grade 5 science at Hadley Middle School was 59%, versus 48% statewide. The two PK–1 schools, William E. Young School and Goodings Grove School, have no supplied test results, and schoolwide results are not fully grade-matched.

Recent results show different paths rather than a shared trend: from 2024–25 to 2025–26, Butler gained 5 points in ELA and 3 in math, while Homer Junior High fell 3 in ELA and 2 in math. Hadley gained 5 points in math but fell 1 in ELA; Schilling’s ELA was essentially flat and its math fell 2. SchoolDigger gives the district four stars and ranks it 89th of 738 Illinois districts, at the 88th percentile. Ratios range from 13.6 students per teacher at Hadley to 15.8 at Butler; Butler leads math despite having the highest ratio among tested schools. Butler and Schilling had similar free/reduced lunch eligible shares in 2021–22, 3% each, an observation that does not explain their score differences. Absenteeism is below the district’s 14% at five schools, but is 21% at Homer Junior High.
