Summary:
Grayslake CCSD 46 has three middle schools serving grades 5–8: Frederick School and Park West School serve grades 5–6 or 5–8, while Grayslake Middle School serves grades 7–8; together, they enroll 1,629 students. In 2025–26, all three schools’ all-grades ELA proficiency exceeded the state’s 56%, while their average math result was about the same as the state’s 40%. The most important area-wide finding is that ELA results are consistently stronger relative to the state than math results.
Park West is the clearest academic standout: it led all-grades ELA at 73% and math at 44%, and also had the highest reported grade 5 and grade 8 science results. Its ELA score was 8 percentage points above the other two schools’ average, and its math score was 7 points above theirs. Frederick is the main math concern: its 32% all-grades math result was 12 points below the other schools’ average and 8 points below the state, although its 64% ELA result was above the state. Grayslake Middle posted 64% in ELA and 44% in math; its grade 8 science result was 63%, above the state’s 52%.
ELA improved at every school from 2024–25 to 2025–26, with the biggest gain at Grayslake Middle: up 19 percentage points, from 46% to 64%, moving from below to above the state. Math trends were mixed: Frederick declined 4 points, Grayslake Middle rose 8, and Park West was unchanged. SchoolDigger lists Park West at 4 stars and the 72nd percentile, and Grayslake Middle at 3 stars and the 63rd percentile. In 2024–25, free/reduced lunch eligible figures were 28% at Park West, 35% at Frederick, and 36% at Grayslake Middle; student-teacher ratios were 12.3, 14.5, and 13.9, respectively. These are useful context for families, not explanations for differences in results.
