Tri Valley CUSD 3

The three schools in Tri Valley CUSD 3 serve preschool through grade 12 and enroll 1,074 students: 295 at Tri-Valley Elementary School, 450 at Tri-Valley Middle School, and 329 at Tri-Valley High School. Reported test results are generally above state figures, but achievement is not uniform across grades: the clearest exception is middle-school grade 8 ELA, where 60% were proficient versus 63% statewide, 3 percentage points lower. That grade 8 ELA result is the most important finding for families to keep in view.

Tri-Valley Elementary stands out in its reported IAR results: grade 3 proficiency was 84% in ELA and 76% in math, respectively 36 and 26 percentage points above state grade 3 results. Tri-Valley High also stands out: grade 11 ACT results exceeded state figures by 26 to 33 percentage points across ELA, math, and science. Tri-Valley Middle was above state all-grades results by 21 points in ELA and 15 in math, though its grade 8 ELA result was below the state. SchoolDigger ranked the high school 41st of 620 schools (93rd percentile, five stars) and the middle school 295th of 1,126 (74th percentile, four stars) in 2025–2026.

Recent results show different trends by school and grade. Elementary IAR scores fell from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026 by 5 points in ELA and 7 in math, while middle-school ELA rose 1 point and math fell 6; both schools’ advantages over state all-grades results narrowed. High-school grade 11 ACT results improved by 8 to 11 points, while grade 9 PreACT Secure results fell by 8 points in ELA, 10 in math, and 15 in science. Attendance is another point of contrast: chronic absenteeism was 21% at the high school, versus 7% at the middle school and 8% at the elementary school. In 2024–2025, student–teacher ratios were 13.4 at the high school, 14.7 at the middle school, and 11.8 at the elementary school; free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 9.4%, 8.7%, and 18.6%, respectively. These figures describe the schools but do not explain their results.
