Summary:

Brownstown CUSD 201 has one elementary school, Brownstown Elementary School, serving prekindergarten through 6th grade, with 264 students. Its 2025–2026 results show a mixed picture: chronic absenteeism was lower than both the district and state rates, at 13% versus 18% and 24%, respectively, but achievement was below state levels in all-grade ELA and math and in 5th-grade science. The largest state gaps were in 5th-grade science, 29% versus 48%, and all-grade math, 25% versus 40%.

Because Brownstown Elementary is the only school in the area, it is both the highest- and lowest-scoring school on the list; that does not show how it compares with other local schools. Its clearest relative strength was 6th-grade ELA, where 67% met the benchmark compared with 59% statewide, an 8-point advantage. ELA results were weaker in the other reported grades: 33% in 3rd grade, 49% in 4th, and 38% in 5th, compared with state results of 48%, 56%, and 55%. SchoolDigger ranked the school at the 29th percentile and gave it 1 star in 2025–2026.

Scores changed little or rose modestly from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while state results increased more. ELA was essentially flat at 47%, math edged up from 24% to 25%, and 5th-grade science rose from 26% to 29%; the state gaps widened in each measure. SchoolDigger’s percentile ranking also declined, from the 42nd percentile in 2023–2024 to the 40th in 2024–2025 and 29th in 2025–2026. For context, the school’s student–teacher ratio was 12.9 in 2024–2025, and 61% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible that year. With one school in the list, comparisons among schools are not possible.
