Summary:
Prophetstown, Illinois, has three schools serving 582 students: Prophetstown Elementary School (PK–2 listed), PLT Middle School (grades 6–8), and Prophetstown High School (grades 9–12). Enrollment ranges from 148 at Middle to 229 at Elementary. The most important takeaway is that results are sharply uneven by school and subject: Middle’s ELA proficiency was 25 points above the state, while its math proficiency was 14 points below.
PLT Middle School is the clearest standout in ELA: its 2025–2026 all-grades result was 81%, compared with 56% statewide, and it exceeded the state in each listed grade. But that strength does not carry over to math: the school scored 25% versus 40% statewide, and was below the state in all three grades. Prophetstown Elementary School shows the reverse pattern in 2024–2025: math was 59% versus 39% statewide, while ELA was 34% versus 53%. At Prophetstown High School, science is a relative strength: 9th- and 10th-grade PreACT results were 61% and 62%, versus 47% and 48% statewide. High-school math is a concern, with 11th-grade ACT math at 23% versus 40% statewide.
High-school results improved in some areas: from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, 11th-grade ACT ELA rose 7 points and math rose 9, while science fell 7. Grade 9 PreACT math climbed 24 points to 44%, just above the state’s 42%; grade 10 math rose 3 points but remained below the state. SchoolDigger’s high-school percentile ranking rose from 43 to 65 over three years, while Middle’s fell from 83 to 57; ranking pools changed in size, so these show relative standing rather than score gains. In 2024–2025, free/reduced lunch eligible shares were 65% at Elementary, 71% at Middle, and 58% at High; student-teacher ratios were 15.3, 11.2, and 12.8, respectively. These figures provide context, not an explanation for achievement.
