Summary:

Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico CUSD3 serves 738 students across four schools, from prekindergarten through grade 12: Prophetstown Elementary (PK–2), Tampico Elementary (grades 3–5), PLT Middle (grades 6–8), and Prophetstown High (grades 9–12). The most important pattern in the 2025–2026 grade-level IAR results is stronger English language arts (ELA) alongside weaker math: across the reported grades at Tampico and PLT Middle, ELA averaged 11 points above state results, while math averaged 6 points below.

PLT Middle is the clearest subject-by-subject standout: its ELA results topped the state by 26 points in grade 6, 11 in grade 7, and 26 in grade 8, while its math results fell short by 8, 10, and 16 points, respectively. Tampico Elementary had a more balanced profile, with above-state ELA in grades 3 and 4 and above-state math in grade 4; its largest shortfall was grade 5 ELA, 7 points below the state. At Prophetstown High, PreACT science was 14 points above the state in both grades 9 and 10, but grade 11 ACT math was 17 points below. Prophetstown Elementary showed a sharp grade 3 split in 2024–2025: math was 10 points above the state, while ELA was 13 points below.

Recent results show progress, but not across every subject or measure. At Prophetstown High, grade 9 PreACT math rose from 20% to 44% between 2024–2025 and 2025–2026, moving from 18 points below the state to 2 points above; grade 10 science rose from 44% to 62%, with its state gap shifting from 6 points below to 14 above. SchoolDigger’s percentile ranking also rose for the high school, from the 43rd to the 65th percentile over three years, while PLT Middle fell from the 83rd to the 57th percentile; those rankings do not erase the middle school’s strong ELA results. In 2024–2025, student–teacher ratios ranged from 11.2 at PLT Middle to 15.3 at Prophetstown Elementary. All four schools reported free/reduced lunch eligible figures that year, from 58% at the high school to 71% at the middle school; these are context, not explanations for achievement.
