Kennedy Elementary School

Summary:

Kennedy Elementary School is a public elementary school located in Rexburg, Idaho, serving 351 students in grades K-4. It is part of the Madison School District, which is ranked 34 out of 56 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Kennedy Elementary consistently outperforms the Madison District and the state of Idaho in math and English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency rates across all grades. In 2022-2023, 53.1% of students were proficient or better in ISAT Math, compared to 38.3% for the Madison District and 41.5% for Idaho. Additionally, Kennedy Elementary's 4th-grade ELA proficiency rate of 56.5% was significantly higher than the Madison District (50.9%) and the state (48.4%). However, the school has a higher chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 19.6% to 24.0% over the past three years, compared to 16.2% at South Fork Elementary, the closest school in the same district.

Kennedy Elementary also serves a relatively disadvantaged population, with 34.63% to 50.71% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch over the past three years, significantly higher than nearby schools like Hibbard Elementary (29.82%) and Burton Elementary (31.42%). Despite these challenges, Kennedy Elementary appears to be efficiently allocating its resources, as its spending per student of $6,486 in 2018-2019 was lower than the nearby Teton Elementary ($8,945) and Burton Elementary ($7,538).

Open Quote Most of the workers involved with education do not meet the individual needs of each child. They only do the minimum and do not go above and beyond for your child nor do they have the interest of improving in any important aspect. The special educational program is disappointing and do not have any helpful resources to assist the students' needs. I expressed my concerns to the members and I was shunned for being outspoken and my feedback was not considered. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
