Historically one of the stronger high schools in the Boise area, Timberline has consistently placed in the top quarter of Idaho high schools and stands out as the highest-performing traditional high school in its district. Despite a recent dip in its state ranking, it remains far ahead of nearby comprehensive high schools like Capital Senior High School, Boise Senior High School, and Borah Senior High School.

Academically, Timberline exceeds district and state averages.
