High Schools in Lakeland District

The Lakeland District in Idaho serves three high schools: Lakeland Senior High School, Timberlake Senior High School, and Mountainview Alternative High School. Lakeland Senior and Timberlake are traditional 9-12 schools with enrollments of 830 and 519 students, respectively, while Mountainview is a smaller alternative school serving grades 6-12 with just 155 students. The Lakeland District overall holds a strong 4-star rating and ranks 21st out of 101 districts in Idaho, but the three schools serve very different student populations.

Lakeland Senior High School is the district's academic leader. With 4 stars and a three-year ranking in the 77th–86th percentile, it posts the highest math (54.7%) and ELA (76.0%) proficiency rates in the district. It also has the lowest chronic absenteeism (5.2%) and the lowest free/reduced lunch rate (18.55%). Timberlake Senior High School is a strong competitor, particularly in science, where 64% of students are proficient — far above Lakeland Senior's 51% and the state average of 42.6%. Timberlake also has a favorable 16.7 student-teacher ratio and a chronic absenteeism rate of 6.1%. Interestingly, Timberlake's overall ranking (54th percentile) is lower than Lakeland Senior's, showing that overall ratings can obscure subject-specific strengths.

Mountainview Alternative High School is the clear outlier. It has the highest chronic absenteeism rate (28.8%), the highest free/reduced lunch rate (43.23%), and the lowest proficiency rates in every subject. Yet it spends the most per student at $10,206, compared with $8,905 at Lakeland Senior and $9,680 at Timberlake. This suggests the additional spending reflects the high-cost nature of alternative education rather than producing higher outcomes. The district's strong overall performance is driven by its two traditional high schools, while Mountainview faces substantially greater challenges. Closing that gap represents the district's most important opportunity.
