Summary

Laie Elementary School is a PK–6 public school serving 662 students in the town of Laie on Oahu's North Shore, part of the single statewide Hawaii Department of Education. It is the largest school in its comparison group — nearly 1.8 times the size of the typical nearby school — and in 2025-2026 it ranked 40th of 203 Hawaii elementary schools (80th percentile, 4 stars). That is a rebound from the 70th percentile in 2024-2025, though still below its late-2010s peak, when it reached the 98th percentile in 2018-2019.

Laie posts the strongest results in its immediate area. Its 2025-2026 proficiency was 64% in ELA, 66% in math, and 61% in science — above the peer average in all three subjects and ahead of its two closest neighbors by wide margins, roughly 20 points in ELA and 25–30 points in math and science over Kahuku Elementary School (2.4 miles away) and Hauula Elementary School (3.2 miles). Sunset Beach Elementary School edges it in ELA, and Mililani Ike Elementary School scores much higher, so Laie is best understood as a strong regional performer. It is also unusually effective with the groups it serves: special education students, English language learners, and low-income students all rank at or above the school's overall standing. Chronic absenteeism improved to 20.0%, slightly better than the peer average of about 21.6%.

Laie achieves this from a lean base. It has the highest student-teacher ratio in the group (16.5, versus a peer average of 12.9) and spends less per student than the peer median. Three things are worth watching: ELA has plateaued at 64% for two straight years, science remains the lowest of the three subjects despite improving to 61%, and free/reduced lunch eligibility rose to 55.14%.
