Open Quote As a parent I love Kaneohe Elementary school. Both of my children attend this school and have had Awesome teachers. They both are ahead in their reading and math levels and they both enjoy going to school everyday. They are encouraged to read every day and because of this they are both ahead in reading and love to read. This school is very parent and child orientated. I have never had a bad experience with the teachers. If I have a question or a concern I have been able to talk to the teachers before school, after school, by phone or even email. The lines of communication are always open and I feel like I can fully express my concerns and I can work with the teachers and figure out a solution.
Kaneohe also has a lot of after school programs. They have Kumon, Japanese language classes, Chinese language classes, Choir, and a Robotics program.
The music teacher is awesome and every year they have a Christmas program and every other year a Mayday program that are outstanding.
Last but not least they have a Fun Fair in November that is great fun, and would never get finished without the help of the Awesome staff and parents. Every year the students look forward to this event and love it. Close Quote

Open Quote This school turned out to be a PARENTS NIGHTMARE! Don't enroll your child in this school if at all possible. There is NO OPEN TEACHER COMMUNICATION. Teachers are told not to discuss information with Parents, and to instead refer all questions to the School Coordinator. UNBELIEVABLE. Can't ask anything without an APPOINTMENT. Calls are not answered, nor are they returned right away. Replies usually take 2-3 days. Special Needs students are not given the necessary attention needed right away. The school drags their feet with excuses of observing for 6 months, etc...... buys them more time to do absolutely NOTHING for your child. Maybe, by the end of the school year, you'll finally get a response like, "Your child is special needs, and requires to be enrolled in our Special Education Program" What? Really? Isn't that what I've been telling you since DAY ONE???!!! Now your child really is BEHIND............. So much time wasted...... I'm glad that I pulled my child out. Now, my child is doing very well, and is exactly where she is supposed to be. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
