Summary

Kaelepulu Elementary School is a PK–6 public school in Kailua, Hawaii, serving 188 students as part of the Hawaii Department of Education. It has long been one of the state's top-performing elementaries, ranking 1st of 195 in 2015–2016, 3rd in both 2016–2017 and 2017–2018, and still 10th of 204 in 2024–2025. In 2025–2026 it placed 22nd of 203 schools statewide — the 89th percentile, with 4 stars. That is still very strong, but a clear step down from its recent top-10 pattern.

Locally, Kaelepulu remains one of the strongest options. In 2025–2026 its ELA proficiency was 73%, second only to Enchanted Lake Elementary School (77%) and slightly above Maunawili Elementary School and Ka'ohao Public Charter School (72% each). Math was 61%, fourth locally behind Ka'ohao (76), Enchanted Lake (72) and Maunawili (68), while science was 75% — tied for the highest nearby. Against the average of surrounding schools, Kaelepulu ran about 17 points higher in ELA, 10 in math and 25 in science, finishing ahead of Kainalu Elementary School, Aikahi Elementary School, Kaneohe Elementary School, Keolu Elementary School, Kailua Elementary School, Puohala Elementary School and Waimanalo Elementary & Intermediate School.

Two other strengths stand out: chronic absenteeism of 5% in 2024–2025 is the lowest among all nearby schools, and the student–teacher ratio is a favorable 13.4. Results have softened recently, though — math fell 17 points from 78% in 2024–2025 to 61%, and ELA has slipped from 82% in 2022–2023 to 73%.
