Summary

Pulaski County Elementary School in Hawkinsville, GA, serves approximately 644 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Pulaski County district, where 100% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

This school has maintained a steady 2-star rating in recent years, with its statewide rank hovering around the 35th to 47th percentile. The most notable bright spot is in 3rd-grade mathematics, where proficiency improved from 38.1% in 2022-2023 to 50.5% in 2024-2025—a gain that pushed the school above the state average. However, math proficiency declines as students advance, dropping to 38.1% in 4th grade and 34.6% in 5th grade in the most recent testing cycle. Science remains the biggest concern, with only 27% of 5th graders proficient in 2025-2026, compared to the state average of 44.2%. Chronic absenteeism has improved significantly, falling from 28.8% to 21.6% over three years, though it remains above the state average of 17.7% and well above nearby high-performing schools like Bleckley County Elementary School (6.3%) and Kings Chapel Elementary School (8.5%).

Compared to nearby schools, Pulaski County Elementary sits in the middle of the pack. Bleckley County Elementary School, just 12.66 miles away, ranks in the 86th percentile with 5th-grade math proficiency more than double Pulaski County's rate—despite serving a similarly high-poverty population. Conversely, Dooly County Elementary School ranks in the 5th percentile, significantly below Pulaski County. Notably, Pulaski County spends about $13,578 per student—more than Bleckley County's $11,511—yet achieves far lower outcomes, suggesting that resource allocation, rather than spending levels, may be key. The school's improvement in attendance and early-grade math gains offer hope, but the pattern of declining proficiency in later grades and the persistent science gap indicate that sustaining academic growth through elementary school remains a challenge. English Language Arts scores from the most recent cycle will be released in December.

Open Quote Horrible. Four years ag when my son started in pre-k the school system seemed to want parent interaction with the school. Now it wants the appearance of parent teacher interaction while they continue to play politics. If a parent asks questions there referred to websites where they see what there child/children are learning but never given upfront answers as to what is going on. Unless your downright rude with teachers and administrators you’ll be dismissed and treated indifferent. Not a good place for families who don’t have roots in the town. Close Quote

Open Quote Pulaski Elementary School is the perfect place to send your black children if you don't mind them being called racial slurs and intentionally misdiagnosed with learning disorders when they're actually gifted. Most of the teachers are not concerned with academically challenging the students because they use printouts that are found online as teaching/testing tools. The WHITE teachers are allowed to do and say whatever they want because they know their actions has NO consequence hence the racial slurs on a regular basis. The current principal, the white one, is a foul-mouth, uncouth racist who tries to hide is ineptitude by bullying everyone. So again, this is the school where you should enroll your black children if you want them to know what it's like attending school in the Jim Crow era in 2018. Close Quote
