Summary

Nebo Elementary School in Dallas, GA, serves approximately 874 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Paulding County School District, where about 60% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Nebo’s biggest success story is its dramatic improvement in attendance. Chronic absenteeism has dropped from 25.7% in 2022-2023 to 15.0% today—a 10.7-point improvement that now beats both the district (16.8%) and state (17.7%) averages. Academically, the school shows a clear pattern: 3rd graders perform near the state average in math (49.2% proficient vs. 48.3% statewide), but by 5th grade, proficiency falls to 30.3%—nearly 14 points below the state. Science follows a similar trend, with only 28% of 5th graders proficient versus 44.2% statewide. This suggests strong early foundations that fade as material becomes more complex. Notably, Nebo outperforms its closest geographic neighbor, Allgood Elementary, in nearly every subject and grade, despite Allgood serving a higher percentage of economically disadvantaged students.

Nebo also stands out for its cost-effectiveness. At $13,378 per student, it spends roughly $3,700 less than Sam D. Panter Elementary School and $4,260 less than New Georgia Elementary School, yet achieves a higher statewide ranking (41st percentile) than several schools that spend more, including Bessie L. Baggett Elementary (24th percentile) and Allgood (28th percentile). The school maintains a student-teacher ratio of 14.5, slightly higher than nearby schools, but this doesn’t appear to hurt outcomes. Areas for attention include lower performance among male students and those receiving special education services, both of which rank below the 35th percentile statewide. Overall, Nebo offers stable, mid-range results with efficient spending and a clear attendance success story—though upper-grade math and science remain key growth areas.

Open Quote The facility along with the principal aren’t engaged with their students, unless you are one of them...... My children have attended this school since 2007 -2018 and my personal experience hasn’t been pleasant at all during this time. This school lack diversity and empathy amongst it staffing from the top down.

The school testing scores are reflective of the leadership and school board that run this county. It’s sad that people we entrust to educate our children, do very little in this area of teaching. Close Quote
