Summary

Jasper County High School in Monticello, GA, serves approximately 818 students in grades 9–12 as part of the Jasper County district. The school currently holds a 2-star rating and ranks 292nd out of 455 Georgia high schools, placing it in the middle-to-lower tier statewide.

The school's greatest strengths are in student persistence. Its graduation rate of 90.4% exceeds the state average of 87.2%, and its dropout rate of 1.5% is well below the state's 2.4%. These figures are particularly impressive given that 91.2% of students now qualify for free or reduced lunch—a dramatic increase from 50.3% just two years ago. Compared to nearby schools, Jasper County outperforms Jackson High School (84.6% graduation, 4.7% dropout) and Alcovy High School (86.3% graduation, 3.1% dropout). The school also posts a chronic absenteeism rate of 18.9%, which is better than all nearby schools, including Locust Grove High (27.2%) and Eastside High School (20.4%).

Academic proficiency tells a more mixed story. Biology proficiency improved significantly to 40.7%, the second-highest among nearby schools and close to the state average of 47.2%. U.S. History is a quiet success, with 36.6% proficiency—the highest of all five schools compared and nearly matching the state's 38.5%. However, Algebra I remains a major concern at 19.7% proficiency, far below the state average of 48.1% and showing a three-year decline from 41%. The school spends $12,440 per student, less than all nearby schools, which may limit additional academic supports. While test scores have slipped from the school's pandemic-era peak, the strong graduation and dropout metrics suggest Jasper County High remains effective at guiding students to completion—the challenge ahead is raising academic mastery, particularly in math, to match that success.

Open Quote As a mother of a student with Autism I have to say that this school is exceptional. The students have gone out of their way to include my son and make him feel as though he is one of the crowd. They always greet him and help him though his "meltdowns". The teachers have gone above and beyond to help him with out overdoing it. This is an impoverished school system with a public library that is open only 2 days a week. I moved from the city where they helped my son to the point of learned helplessness. This school has pride and determination. Every student is seen as though they can do anything and the world is their oyster. There are a lot of clubs and sports. There are clubs for Christians and clubs for personal character development, there are just to many to mention.
I have seen teachers in the local stores and they always stop to say hello and ask how you and your child are doing. They know your family and your child, your not just another face in a large crowd. Even our bus drivers say hello. If you want your child to grow up included and with a sense of personal and community pride. This is the place. Yes i know it is 10 miles past where you hear the banjo's play. That is why it is uncontaminated and unspoiled and it is still a close knit community with room for more.
But if you want Mayberry with all the love and support, and churches that are abundant with care and good country folks. This is the place. I am glad I moved here to where the roots are strong and the the children are tended by the teachers and community as if they were their own. Close Quote
