Summary

Centennial Arts Academy is an elementary school in Gainesville, GA, serving 760 students in grades PK-5 as part of the Gainesville City district. The school currently holds a 1-star rating and ranks in the 19th percentile of Georgia elementary schools, a decline from its 2-star, 46th-percentile standing a decade ago.

One of the school's relative strengths is attendance: its chronic absenteeism rate of 17.3% closely mirrors the state average (17.7%) and has remained remarkably stable over the past four years, even as district-wide rates have fluctuated. In math, there's a positive trend worth noting—5th-grade proficiency jumped from just 11.4% in 2022-2023 to 32.2% in 2024-2025, actually surpassing the district average before settling at 27.4% this year. However, science remains a significant concern, with only 18.9% of 5th graders proficient compared to 44.2% statewide. The school's English Language Learner (ELL) students are a bright spot, ranking in the 26th percentile statewide—higher than the school's overall ranking—suggesting relatively effective language support programs.

Compared to nearby schools, Centennial sits in the middle tier of its district. Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy, just 1.87 miles away, dramatically outperforms Centennial (64th percentile statewide) with 5th-grade math proficiency at 52.1% versus 27.4%, and science at 48.7% versus 18.9%. Mundy Mill Arts Academy also outpaces Centennial (45th percentile) with notably lower chronic absenteeism (9.8% vs. 17.3%), despite serving a similar percentage of economically disadvantaged students. Interestingly, Centennial's per-pupil spending of $14,955 is among the highest in the district, yet this investment hasn't translated into proportionally better outcomes. The school's stable attendance, improving math trajectory, and relatively strong ELL support provide foundations to build upon as it works to reverse its decade-long ranking decline.

Open Quote Great school! My daughter, who was basically introverted, is in her 4th year at CAA. Since starting school at CAA, she has bloomed! Her kindergarten teacher, Ms. Whitaker, was great! Her first grade teacher, Mrs. Boyers, was fantastic also! Her second grade teacher, Mrs. Orr, was awesome! And her third grade homeroom teacher, Mrs. Izaguirre, and math teacher, Mrs. Brewer, are both superior teachers! I am very pleased with quality of education that she is receiving at CAA. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The Principal, Ms. Williams, and the Assistant Principal, Mrs. Frierson, BOTH do an incredible job. Ms. Williams, who was the Assistant Principal to Mrs. Gilliam, the former principal, is really doing a wonderful job! Ms. Williams assisted Mrs. Gilliam, who was also great, for many years. Ms. Williams knows her job! If she wasn't capable of performing her job, believe me, she would not be the principal of CAA. I believe when parents show up, and show an interest in their Childs education, the child performs better, and the staff knows that the parent cares. We have a policy in America, "No child left behind", no matter what their situation is. Close Quote
