Summary

Lake Windward Elementary School in Alpharetta, GA, serves 672 students in grades PK through 5 and has earned a reputation as one of the top elementary schools in Georgia, ranking in the 99th percentile statewide for nearly a decade. The school has never ranked lower than 19th in the state over the past ten years, with its most recent 2025-2026 ranking at 14th place. This consistency is a hallmark of the school's success, reflecting strong institutional systems and a culture of high expectations that holds up even as student cohorts change year to year.

Academically, Lake Windward stands out most dramatically in mathematics. In 2025-2026, 3rd grade math proficiency reached 89.5%, 4th grade hit 92.9%, and 5th grade reached 92.1%—all roughly 30 to 40 percentage points above state averages. The school also achieves remarkable equity across student groups, ranking #1 in Georgia for Hispanic student achievement out of 503 schools, and earning top-20 statewide rankings for both male and female students. While current-year English Language Arts scores are not yet available (they release in December), historical performance has been consistently strong, with 5th grade ELA proficiency at 87.3% in 2024-2025 compared to 43% statewide. Chronic absenteeism is exceptionally low at 3.6%, down 66% over four years and far below the district (16.6%) and state (17.7%) averages.

Compared to nearby schools, Lake Windward holds its own against elite competition. Creek View Elementary (ranked 6th) and Wilson Creek Elementary (ranked 10th) are close rivals, with Wilson Creek notably surpassing Lake Windward in 5th grade science (88.1% vs. 75.7%). However, Lake Windward's #1 statewide ranking for Hispanic students far exceeds both peers, and its student-teacher ratio of 13:1 is more favorable than Wilson Creek's 15:1. The school also achieves top-15 results while spending less per student ($17,974) than several lower-ranked nearby schools like Findley Oaks ($19,610) and Medlock Bridge ($18,774). One trend worth watching is a gradual decline in 5th grade science proficiency over three years, though the school still outperforms the Fulton County district by nearly 20 points.

Open Quote not for black kids, it depends heavily on what teacher you get, teachers are quick to label your kid instead of working with them and the story seems to always change which has created a lack of trust and suspicion, they test them like teenagers but refuse to send reference materials home so the kids can practice and so the parents can know what they are working on Close Quote
