Summary

Brookwood Elementary in Cumming, GA, serves about 810 students in Pre-K through 5th grade within the highly regarded Forsyth County district, which ranks in the 97th percentile statewide. The school has long been a strong performer, though its state ranking has shifted from a top-1% position (2015–2021) to the top 5–6% in recent years—still an excellent standing, but one that reflects a more competitive local landscape.

Brookwood’s most remarkable strength is its support for special education students, ranking 4th out of 465 schools statewide (99th percentile)—a standout achievement that far exceeds nearby schools. The school also posts an impressively low chronic absenteeism rate of 4.7%, down from 11.9% three years ago, and well below the district (8.2%) and state (17.7%) averages. In math, proficiency rates range from 77% to 84.7% across grades, beating district and state averages, though several neighbors—like Daves Creek Elementary (91–94%) and Lake Windward Elementary (89–93%)—post higher numbers. Science proficiency (70.8%) also exceeds state averages but trails schools like Wilson Creek Elementary (88.1%) and Creek View Elementary (86.9%).

At $13,426 per student, Brookwood spends less than most comparable schools—including Findley Oaks Elementary ($19,610) and Abbotts Hill Elementary—yet still achieves strong outcomes, suggesting efficient resource use. The school’s dramatic attendance improvement and exceptional special education results point to effective, inclusive practices. While upper-grade math and science offer room for growth, Brookwood remains a well-rounded, high-quality choice for families, particularly those seeking a school that excels at supporting diverse learning needs.

Open Quote Hi! My name is Carlos and I graduate elementary at this school. First off, the reason why I gave this school a 2/5 is because they're are so many teachers that don't really solve student situation. When I was around all my childhood in this establishment, I can definitely see a lot of kids that are mean to others on purpose. For example, someone shuved me really hard on purpose while I was throwing away trash. Another reason why I give this rate is, because the food is absolutely DISGUSTING. My friend one time was choking on a burger cause it clearly had something in it. IDK what it was (don’t remember). But that time was when the ambulance came by saved my friend and led the school to have a “MEDICAL LOCKDOWN.” So in a summary, I think that Brookwood Elementary School MUST IMPROVE THE Consequences that occurs. Thank for spending your time reading this and hopefully you guy can get an Idea or this school. Close Quote

Open Quote My daughter started at Brookwood Elementary when it opened in 2009 as a first grader. She has had wonderful teachers who have pushed her and influenced her to truly love school. Kathie Braswell, the principal, is very involved in every aspect of Brookwood. She's very approachable and cares greatly for her students. I'm very happy that we have such a superb school in Forsyth County. Close Quote
